Historical: Mexican police arrest 167 members of the organized crime; confiscates more than 200 guns

Morelia, Michoacán.- After armed individuals, members of the self-defense group known as Pueblos Unidos, blocked road accesses in the town of Tiamba in Uruapan, Michoacán, and at other points on the Pátzcuaro-Uruapan highway section, the Attorney General’s Office ( FGR) reported that it opened an investigation file against 167 detainees during those events.

The Secretary of Security of Michoacán assured that in the town of Tiamba “a severe blow was achieved to crime, thanks to an inter-institutional operation by elements of the National Guard, Secretary of National Defense, who dismantled a criminal cell” .

In addition to the dispute that exists in Michoacán between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the so-called United Cartels, the members of “Pueblos Unidos”, an organization created by former members of the Knights Templar, tried to take over the municipalities of Uruapan and Parangaricutiro ; the armed subjects traveled aboard vehicles labeled with the name “Pueblos Unidos”.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that through its Delegation in Michoacán, it initiated an investigation file against the 167 people (three adolescents) detained for their alleged responsibility for the crime of carrying firearms for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Elements of the Secretary of National Defense and the Secretary of Security of Michoacán went to Tiamba on Saturday night, due to an alert to the C5i, about the presence of a convoy with armed people; so when they went to the place they observed on a dirt site in the aforementioned community, those now detained carrying 182 firearms of various calibers, two grenades, two grenade launchers and 24 vehicles (one armored).

The detainees, weapons and vehicles were seized and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry of the Federation (MPF) in Morelia, who will request the corresponding investigations and opinions from elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), as well as experts from the institution in order to integrate the research folder.
