Genaro García Luna found guilty of 5 charges by American Justice System

Mexico City.- Former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro Garcia Luna, was found guilty on all five charges he faced, as determined by the jury in the Brooklyn Court. Three of the charges were related to drug trafficking, one for organized crime, and another for making false statements.

During the trial against Genaro Garcia Luna, the jury members requested to review the statements of drug trafficker Jesus ‘El Rey Zambada’. They also asked Judge Brian Cogan to review the statements of a US Coast Guard agent, who spoke about a 2008 seizure of five tons of cocaine in which Garcia Luna was allegedly involved.

Jesus Reynaldo ‘El Rey’ Zambada previously stated that he gave nearly five million dollars in bribes to Genaro Garcia Luna during his testimony before US judicial authorities.

In the central and final part of the trial against the former Mexican official, the jury members also requested to consult the statements of Harold Poveda, ‘El Conejo’, to review a cocaine seizure on a submarine.

Garcia Luna’s defense objected that the Colombian drug lord did not mention any drug seizure on a vessel of that type, so Judge Brian Cogan agreed with the defense and told the jury members that if they wanted to review Poveda’s statements, they would have to draft a second note requesting that information.

It is worth remembering that ‘El Conejo’ revealed that his 2010 detention was a setup and that he was tortured by Federal Police agents after his capture.
