Relatives and friends gathered in Tacámbaro to bid farewell to soldier Ana Fernanda Basaldúa, who was found dead at a military base in Texas

Tacámbaro, Michoacán.- The caravan departed from the entrance to Tacámbaro, at a location known as La Meza, and then proceeded to Corregidora Street. They walked to the “11 de Abril” funeral home located in the center, where Ana Fernanda’s ashes arrived, and a memorial mass was held in her honor.

Amid flowers and balloons, family and friends of Ana Fernanda Basaldúa Ruiz, a soldier in the US Army of Michoacan origin who was found dead at a military base in Texas on March 11, honored the young woman upon the arrival of her remains in the municipality of Tacámbaro.

A motorcade, a walk, flowers, balloons, and photographs of Ana Fernanda Basaldúa were displayed in the tribute paid to the soldier in her hometown.

The urn containing her ashes was held by her mother, while her father carried the young woman’s last uniform.

Amidst the attendees’ evident pain, they demanded justice for Basaldúa Ruiz, as her family believes that the cause of the soldier’s death has not been sufficiently clarified, and no punishment has been given to those responsible for harm done to her.

Although the US military authorities determined that the cause of death was suicide due to the harassment she experienced, her family believes that there has not been enough clarity regarding the events and punishment for those responsible for harm to the young woman.
