The DEA asserts that there is no evidence that AMLO received money from drug cartels for his campaign

México City.- Mike Vigil, former head of International Operations at the DEA, stated in an interview that he saw no evidence supporting the allegations against the Mexican President in the reports by journalists Anabel Hernández and Tim Golden.

Vigil mentioned that even in the trials of ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán and Genaro García Luna, there was no mention of alleged funding for López Obrador’s first presidential campaign.

He noted that while criminal organizations have funded political campaigns globally, he found no indication of AMLO’s involvement in such activities.

Vigil also highlighted that in the trials, individuals associated with the Sinaloa Cartel were mentioned, but there was never any reference to the alleged funding of López Obrador’s first presidential campaign. Furthermore, he noted that during these judicial processes, Enrique Peña Nieto was mentioned instead of the current Mexican president.

Finally, Vigil stated that cases of criminal organizations financing political campaigns are not exclusive to Mexico but occur worldwide.
