AMLO: New section of the Mayan Train to be inaugurated at the end of february

Mexico City.- During Monday’s “morning” press conference on February twelfth, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced that on February twenty-ninth, section 5 of the Mayan Train will be inaugurated.
General Óscar David Lozano Águila, in charge of the Mayan Train, pointed out that the new section runs from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, in Quintana Roo, highlighting it as the heart of the tourist area in the southeastern region of the country.

He also informed that early morning schedules will be included for the workers of the Riviera Maya, following an instruction from the President of the Republic, with trains running at six and seven-thirty in the morning depending on the section.

For tourists, the earliest will be at nine in the morning and the latest at four-thirty in the afternoon, depending on the section, which will be double-tracked and have a length of 50.157 km.

Lozano Águila mentioned that most ticket sales are done at the ticket office, more than online sales, and pointed out that on February twenty-eighth there will be a supervision tour, where technicians will cover the usual distance, but with increased speed, maintaining safety as a priority, increasing from 120 to 140 kilometers per hour, departing from Palenque at seven in the morning and ending in Cancun.

Since its inauguration, the Mayan Train has transported 50,976 passengers, an average of 927 people daily, in its five convoys in service. Just over half of the passengers have been women, with a total of 27,851 female passengers, while 23,125 male passengers have traveled, with only 3,095 children.
