México City.- A strike by workers that began 55 days ago at a Mexican plant of the steel giant ArcelorMittal ended on Friday, the government secretary of the western state of Michoacán told Reuters.
The workers affiliated with the union had been on strike since the end of May, protesting against the annual profit-sharing since 2023, thus paralyzing all operational activities.
Reuters was unable to immediately contact either the miners’ union or their legal representation. The government also did not provide details about the agreements reached with the miners.
Earlier on Friday, ArcelorMittal reported that some workers continued with the protest at their facilities located in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, even after reaching an agreement supported by the majority of employees the previous day, which included an 8% salary increase and a review of the collective bargaining agreement.
