WASHINGTON – Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada García was arrested in Texas by agents of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) after a detailed investigation they had been conducting on the notorious leader of the Sinaloa cartel, a senior DEA official confirmed to Proceso.

The arrest of El Mayo is peculiar, and not everyone in the U.S. government is aware of the details of the surveillance on the historic and powerful Mexican drug lord. There is also speculation, which will be clarified in due course, that the capo of capos may have voluntarily surrendered to U.S. authorities.
