Nicolás Maduro wins elections in Venezuela

Caracas, Venezuela. – Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela and candidate for re-election, won the presidential elections held this Sunday in the South American country, allowing him to advance towards his third consecutive term after the era of revolutionary leader Hugo Chávez Frías.

Maduro’s victory, enabling him to govern Venezuela during the 2025-2031 presidential term, was supported by 5,150,092 voters, representing 51.20% of the results confirmed by the National Electoral Council (CNE), as reported by its president and principal rector, Elvis Amoroso, in a statement from the Electoral Power headquarters in Caracas.

Amoroso stated that this first bulletin with a “forceful and irreversible trend” was issued after 80% of the votes were counted and with an electoral participation of 59%. He added that the publication of the results was delayed due to an “attack” on the data transmission system, prompting the institution to request an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office for these “terrorist actions.”

With this new victory, Maduro adds to his wins in the 2013 presidential elections, where he surpassed the opposition candidate and former governor of Miranda, Henrique Capriles, with 7,587,579 votes (50.61%); and in the 2018 elections, where he defeated Henri Falcón by obtaining 6,248,864 votes (67.84%).
